My obsession has taken a stronghold.
After my first attempt, I determined the chocolate crackles needed something extra. While perusing the local grocery ads I found several liquors on sale-it being Memorial Day weekend and all. There were so many to choose from, but once I saw the word Cognac I was sold. Cognac…there’s something so regal about the name. “How can I go wrong with Cognac?” I said. “They’ve been making it since 1765!”
I whipped up a batch with the Cognac plus some dark chocolate chunks a la Belgium and refrigerated it overnight. The next morning I was on a mission. Baked ‘em up and waited. Like I said before, it’s hard to wait when there’s warm chocolaty goodness staring you in the face. I lasted 52 minutes. The crackles were fantastic, but that’s unacceptable when you’re reaching for ‘outta this world!’ The Cognac addition wasn’t enough. Or maybe I didn’t add enough. Either way I still had more work to do.
The saga continues …..
After tasting the crackles I realized most of the alcohol had baked out. It was left with just a hint of Cognac. You see, Cognac is only 40% alcohol. I was going to need something a bit stronger. I went straight to Ralph’s and stood in the liquor isle for one half hour just staring. Which one shall I choose?
I left Ralph’s with bag in hand. It’s time for 151…Rum.
