Warm Honey Bacon Dressing

by Mondo on September 5, 2009

warn honey bacon dressing

Last night I had a nightmare;  someone had stolen my spinach!  Now I know that doesn’t make any sense to you, so let me explain.  Someone took my spinach, therefore I couldn’t eat my Spinach Salad with Warm Honey Bacon Dressing.  The spinach is important, but not as much as the dressing.  If someone had stolen that, I would’ve woke up screaming!

Here’s what happened. [click to continue…]

Honey Lemonade

by Mondo on August 10, 2009

honey lemonadeIt’s hot!  It’s always hot in my kitchen.  Maybe it’s because the oven is always on.  Maybe it’s because I’m always cooking or baking something.  The fact it’s summertime is not helping much.  This little diddy chilled me out.  Maybe, it will cool you off too.
Seriously.  Try it.  It’s my new favorite thing.

Mondo’s Honey Lemonade
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup plus 2T lemon juice, about 3 lemons
3 cups cold water

Stir honey and hot water over low heat until blended.
Let cool and add lemon juice and cold water.
Chill or pour into iced glasses.

Makes 1 pitcher

Enjoy!

The Diva

by Mondo on July 30, 2009

midnight bliss

Divas can be quite temperamental: fussy, demanding, ridiculous at times, but in the end…they’re completely worth the trouble.  Is it Mariah, you ask?  Whitney?  Celine?  Nah.  I’m talking about the ultimate cookie diva-the Midnight Bliss.

As the creator of this cookie,  it’s very close to my heart.  That being said, sometimes I want to punch it in the face.  I’ve prepared this cookie on several occasions, each with some sort of issue.

The New Yorker

New Yorker

Let me begin by saying…I’m a sucker for a beautiful chocolate chip cookie.  It’s like how guys react when they see a hot chick.  They think, “How do I get me some of that?”  Don’t lie guys…you know you think that way.  I’m not hating.  I’m the same way…just for cookies.

Snickerdoodle Sunday

by Mondo on July 5, 2009

Snickerdoodle

It’s official!   I’m declaring July 5th Snickerdoodle Sunday!  Well…not really, but it’s a catchy title, no?

While perusing cookie blogs this weekend, I found one entitled lovin from the oven.  Kim, owner of said blog, had some very cute pics of Snickerdoodles on her site.  Now, I’m not a huge fan of Snickerdoodles, but I certainly wouldn’t turn one down-know what I’m saying?  Plus, quite a few of my friends request that I add them to my ever-expanding repertoire.  So…here goes. The Giant Cookie Challenge

by Mondo on July 1, 2009

Marsha Yasuda

Marsha, aka  Snuda, a great friend of mine, once said “There’s no way a giant cookie can taste good.”  Of course, I had to disagree with her, even though I think the giant cookie is one of the dumbest creations ever!

Today I’m setting out to prove her wrong, because I do believe the giant cookie can taste good, as long as it’s made with my chocolate chip  recipe.  Does that make me arrogant?  Wait…don’t answer that question.

Part Done: Midnight Bliss

by Mondo on June 19, 2009

After taking 48 hours to flush the evil Advil out of my system and let my taste buds heal, I gave my newest creation a try.  Dark and decadent,  this cookie is not for the faint of heart.  It’s a delight that should be savored with your favorite glass of red by the fire.  Having none of those things, I ate mine standing near the stove in the kitchen.  Not as sexy, but just as good.

Part 7: Broken Mouth

by Mondo on June 18, 2009

advil

Let me just say I’ve never made wine syrup before today.  It’s kinda exciting.  If you’ve never made it before either, let me tell ya…it generates the most amazing aroma ever.  The fragrance is hard to describe-it’s like waking up at your favorite bread and breakfast and brunch is already waiting for you.  The bouquet promises buttered brioche, freshly made strawberry preserves and warm, dark amber syrup.  I wanted to keep on simmering so I could smell it forever.

Part 6: Wine Syrup

by Mondo on June 4, 2009

Wine Syrup

Ok…the prune butter knocked me back a couple of steps.  What was I thinking?  Prune butter?  It doesn’t matter that I made it myself.  Or that I made it with wine.  The fact remains…prune butter!  The audience was silent.  I could hear the crickets chirping.  I’ll know better next time.
