The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

by Mondo on November 7, 2009

I’ve been in love for years.  This may come as a shock to my friends because I’m totally single, but it’s true.

Pistachio Kitchen Aid Miixer

It all began when this beautiful machined arrived on my doorstep.

I remember it like it was yesterday… I won $100 from a friend (I won’t go into detail about that) and decided I would use the money to purchase a KitchenAid Mixer.  You see, making dough by hand is not as much fun as you might think, and experimenting with cookie recipes had become my favorite thing to do.

Blueberry Lemon Cornmeal Cake

by Mondo on October 25, 2009

Blueberry-Lemon Cornmeal CakeI’m so excited!  I’m participating in my first Magazine Mondays.  If you don’t know about it, you should check it out.  Every Monday, the lovely Ivonne from Cream Puffs in Venice posts a tried recipe from a magazine-along with very beautiful photos, of course.

I saw this recipe in Fine Cooking, September 2006, while on vacation in Seattle.  I bought it so I would have something to read during the flight home.  The recipes are quick, easy and fun.  Plus, lemon and blueberry is one of my favorite combinations when it comes to muffins…who knew it’s great for cakes too?  OK, I knew, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get excited about it.

Nut & Honey Cookies

by Mondo on September 16, 2009

Nut & Honey Cookie The D-man is on a special diet.

Oh, in case you didn’t know, the D-man is my best friend, web designer, photographer and confidant.  His diet is a combination of many things: gluten free, grain free, sugar free, and soy free.  Umm…that’s a little too much freedom, if you ask me.

Do You Do Super-Cute?

Super-Cute Baby Shower Favors

Before this weekend, the answer was a resounding ‘no’, but after…?

Let me tell you about my weekend.  It was filled with boxes, ribbons, tags, tape, stickers, cello bags, and 100 cookies.  That’s right. 100 cookies!

Let’s play a little game, shall we?  It’s called ‘if you’re going to bake 100 cookies…’ [click to continue…]

Warm Honey Bacon Dressing

by Mondo on September 5, 2009

warn honey bacon dressing

Last night I had a nightmare;  someone had stolen my spinach!  Now I know that doesn’t make any sense to you, so let me explain.  Someone took my spinach, therefore I couldn’t eat my Spinach Salad with Warm Honey Bacon Dressing.  The spinach is important, but not as much as the dressing.  If someone had stolen that, I would’ve woke up screaming!

Here’s what happened. [click to continue…]

Honey Lemonade

by Mondo on August 10, 2009

honey lemonadeIt’s hot!  It’s always hot in my kitchen.  Maybe it’s because the oven is always on.  Maybe it’s because I’m always cooking or baking something.  The fact it’s summertime is not helping much.  This little diddy chilled me out.  Maybe, it will cool you off too.
Seriously.  Try it.  It’s my new favorite thing.

Mondo’s Honey Lemonade
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup plus 2T lemon juice, about 3 lemons
3 cups cold water

Stir honey and hot water over low heat until blended.
Let cool and add lemon juice and cold water.
Chill or pour into iced glasses.

Makes 1 pitcher

Enjoy!

The Diva

by Mondo on July 30, 2009

midnight bliss

Divas can be quite temperamental: fussy, demanding, ridiculous at times, but in the end…they’re completely worth the trouble.  Is it Mariah, you ask?  Whitney?  Celine?  Nah.  I’m talking about the ultimate cookie diva-the Midnight Bliss.

As the creator of this cookie,  it’s very close to my heart.  That being said, sometimes I want to punch it in the face.  I’ve prepared this cookie on several occasions, each with some sort of issue.

The New Yorker

New Yorker

Let me begin by saying…I’m a sucker for a beautiful chocolate chip cookie.  It’s like how guys react when they see a hot chick.  They think, “How do I get me some of that?”  Don’t lie guys…you know you think that way.  I’m not hating.  I’m the same way…just for cookies.

Snickerdoodle Sunday

by Mondo on July 5, 2009

Snickerdoodle

It’s official!   I’m declaring July 5th Snickerdoodle Sunday!  Well…not really, but it’s a catchy title, no?

While perusing cookie blogs this weekend, I found one entitled lovin from the oven.  Kim, owner of said blog, had some very cute pics of Snickerdoodles on her site.  Now, I’m not a huge fan of Snickerdoodles, but I certainly wouldn’t turn one down-know what I’m saying?  Plus, quite a few of my friends request that I add them to my ever-expanding repertoire.  So…here goes.
